Patient Ally – Part I

This article covers the basics and foundation of Patient Ally — its features, benefits for providers and patients, account setup and management, and how to incorporate it into your day-to-day workflow.

What Is Patient Ally?

Patient Ally is a free, secure communication portal for both providers and patients. It enables your office to send lab results, documents, and clinical summaries electronically, while patients can request appointments directly within the portal. Patient Ally is completely free for providers and patients alike.

Benefits for Providers

Patient Ally gives you and your staff full control over visibility and access. You decide which staff members can view or respond to messages, what results or documents to share, and how to customize appointment availability and office hours. By offering patients secure electronic access to their health information, Patient Ally helps your practice:

  • Support compliance goals and fulfill Promoting Interoperability requirements.
  • Simplify reporting through built-in tracking and documentation trails.
  • Enable faster, easier management of data and forms — intake forms flow directly into patient demographics, and completed forms are automatically stored in the patient’s chart.

Benefits for Patients

Patients can access their healthcare information securely at any time, on any device, from anywhere in the US. Through Patient Ally, patients can:

  • View lab results, clinical summaries, and notifications.
  • Send, receive, and upload documents and messages, such as insurance cards or forms.
  • Request appointments online.
  • Complete intake forms online before their visit, saving time and reducing paperwork at check-in.

Intake Forms

Intake forms are an optional feature of Patient Ally. They can be sent during appointment scheduling, editing, check-in, or checkout. Before using intake forms, note the following:

  1. Submit Forms for Configuration
  • Your office must first submit the forms to Office Ally for configuration.
  • Allow three to four business weeks for processing.
  • Note: Forms can only be sent to enrolled Patient Ally users.
  1. Review Returned Forms
  • Once processed, completed forms appear in the EHR Document Center tab under the Document sub-menu.
  • Green text indicates new or additional data. Red text highlights modified data.
  • All completed forms are reviewed before being stored in the patient’s chart.
  • New or updated data can be viewed under Documents → Intake and Authorization Documents. This section shows the most recent additions and modifications.
  1. Approve and Reconcile Forms
  • Once a form is approved and reconciled, it will appear in the patient’s chart under Documents.
