How to Transition from Exostar to ID.me for EPCS Access

September 24, 2025

Office Ally is transitioning from Exostar to ID.me for identity verification related to Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS). Users who currently have EPCS access through Exostar will need to transition to ID.me once their token expires or becomes inactive to maintain uninterrupted access to EPCS features.

Why it Matters:

  • Exostar users must transition to ID.me when their subscription expires, or their tokens stop working.
  • The process can be completed through EHR 24/7 or Practice Mate.
  • Transitioning to ID.me from Exostar requires identity verification and linking your Office Ally account to your ID.me profile.

Steps to Transition:

  1. Login to EHR 24/7 or Practice Mate and navigate to Manage Office.
  1. Scroll to the E-Prescribe section and click My EPCS Account
  1. A notification about Exostar discontinuation will appear; click Sign Up for ID.me.
  1. Click Request Enrollment (or Begin Enrollment). If you’ve enrolled via Exostar, you may skip some steps.
  • How to Approve a Provider for Enrollment:

To successfully approve a provider for enrollment, please note that the person who approves the provider at the end cannot be the same person who enrolled them at the beginning. This process typically involves three people:

  • The Enrollee – The individual who is signing up.
  • The Enroller – A staff member who assists with the enrollment. This individual cannot be the enrollee or the approver.
  • The Approver – An EPCS-registered prescriber (or the Enrollee, if they are the first to complete registration in the account).
  • Steps to Assign Enroller/Approver Roles:
  • Login to your Security Admin account.
  • Navigate to Manage Users.
  • Find the username and click Edit.
  • Under Advanced Settings, mark the user as either Enroller or Approver.
  1. Sign In or Create Your ID.me Account
  • Redirected to ID.me; check for an existing account to avoid delays.
  1. Download the ID.me Authenticator App
  • Install the app to generate 6-digit codes for controlled substance prescriptions (replacing the Exostar token).
  1. Verify Your Identity
  • Upload photos of your driver’s license (front and back) and take a live selfie for verification. Contact Office Ally Support if verification fails.
  1. Enter NPI and DEA Information
  • After successful verification, input your NPI and DEA numbers.
  1. Link Your Account to Office Ally
  • Allow Office Ally to connect with your ID.me account and return to the My EPCS Account section.
  1. Confirm Account Status
  • Ensure all sections in My EPCS Account show as Verified to start prescribing controlled substances.
  • Important Note:

The ID.me Authenticator App replaces the Exostar token.
