Completing the EPCS Enrollment Process - Provider Steps Ready to Publish

October 9, 2025

If you are a provider looking to prescribe controlled substances through Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS), you’ll need to complete the enrollment, ID proofing, and approval process. This process requires one user to act as the Enroller and another to act as the Approver.

Before We Begin

Before starting the EPCS enrollment process, ensure you have access to Practice Mate or EHR. You will also need a valid government-issued ID and the ability to download the ID.me Authenticator app.

Steps to Request EPCS Enrollment:

  1. Log into Practice Mate or EHR
  • Use your regular credentials to sign in.
  1. Navigate to the Manage Office Tab
  1. Click Register under the e-Prescribe Section
  • This will open a new window.
  1. Select the Option to Prescribe Controlled Substances
  • Choose this option to begin the enrollment process.
  • The designated Enroller will receive a Desktop Message notification.

Steps to Complete ID Proofing:

Once enrollment is initiated, the provider must complete identity verification through ID.me. If you already have an ID.me account, be ready with your login information. ID.me will not allow more than one account per provider.

  1. Log into Practice Mate or EHR
  • Use your credentials to sign in.
  1. Navigate to the Manage Office Tab
  • Locate the e-Prescribe section.
  1. Log in with ID.me
  • Follow the prompts in the pop-up window.
  • If you don’t have an account, you will be prompted to create one.
  • Have a legal ID ready for verification.
  • Download the ID.me Authenticator App (required for future logins).
  1. Complete the Identity Verification Steps
  • Follow the guided process on the ID.me site.
  • You’ll receive confirmation once verification is complete.
  1. Close the Tab
  • Your ID proofing is now complete and you’re ready for final approval.

Final Steps: Approval & Prescribing

Once ID proofing is complete, the Approver will need to finalize your EPCS setup.

  • If you’re already approved, you can begin prescribing controlled substances immediately.
  • If you still need to take the OARX Webinar, schedule it from the Tech Training link or the Webinar Home Page after logging in.
