How to Designate Line Items as Patient Responsibility in Practice Mate Visits

Before generating patient statements in Practice Mate, it’s important to mark which charges are the patient’s responsibility correctly. This guide walks you through how to designate either individual line items or an entire visit as Patient Responsibility to ensure accurate billing and clear patient statements.

Marking Single Line Items as Patient Responsibility

  1. In Practice Mate, click on the Patients Visits tab.
  1. Select the pencil icon to edit the appropriate visit.
  1. Click the Billing Info tab.
  1. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the Adjustment button.  
  1. Check the box below Complete (Patient Responsibility) for any line item where the patient owes the entire remaining balance of the line item.  
  1. Click Apply or Update to save your changes.  
    • This will ensure that this line item is included in any billing statements you generate for the patient.

Marking an entire visit as Patient Responsibility

  1. Login to Practice Mate
  1. Click on the Patients Visits tab.
  1. Select the pencil icon to edit the appropriate visit.
  1. In the Visit Info tab, locate the Visit Status drop-down menu.
  1. Select Patient Responsibility  
  1. Click Apply or Update to save your changes.
    • By changing the Visit Status to Patient Responsibility all line items within the visit will be marked as Complete (Patient Responsibility).
