You can customize how your EHR 24/7 account works by updating your User Preferences. The User Preferences page is divided into five separate tabs that allow you to adjust settings for everything from chart appearance to lab defaults.
User Preferences are settings and stored information that affect only your login; your choices do not affect other logins in the Office Ally account.
Note: Any updates made on one tab will be saved across all User Preferences when you click the Update button at the bottom of the screen.
Accessing User Preferences
- Navigate to the Manage Office tab.
- Under the User section, click User Preferences.
- You’ll be taken to the first tab, General, where you can begin making changes.
General Tab
Set basic default settings for your account, such as:
- Default Office: Choose your primary work location (useful if your account has access to multiple offices).
- Default Provider: Automatically populate this provider’s name on new appointments or progress notes.
- Color Theme: Click to select a background color for your account interface.
Patient Chart Tab
Control how your patient chart behaves and displays information. This tab is broken into three sections:
Patient Chart Settings
- Summary Page Panels Appearance: Choose between multi-colored panels or a classic white layout for the Summary page.
- Default Document View: Select Sidebar or Horizontal as the default layout for viewing progress notes/encounters.
- Alerts for Abnormal Vital Signs: Enable to receive alerts for abnormal vitals.
- User’s Time Zone: Set your local time zone for accurate timestamps on signed notes and lab orders.
- OARX Activation Date: Displays when E-prescribe is activated for your account.
- Carry Template Info Over to Visit: Automatically carry over billing details from Practice Mate templates if left blank in the note.
Edit Progress Note Settings
- Default Guideline ID: Choose a guideline set to auto-populate new progress notes.
- Default Auto Save: Set autosave intervals from every 5 to 30 minutes while editing.
New Progress Note Settings
- Default Location of Service: Set to pull company or selected office info onto notes.
- Add “[Age][Sex] presented with”: Choose whether to prepend this to Chief Complaint or HPI sections.
- Default Skip Print CPT Code List in Note: Prevents printing of procedure codes in the note.
- Default Print Problem List at Top of Note: Adds diagnosis history to the top of each note.
- Default Print Physician Extender Signature (if exists): Includes extender signatures when applicable.
- Default Print Nurse Note (if exists): Includes nurse notes on printed versions.
- Default Print Growth Chart Percentiles in Note: Prints percentile data from any existing growth charts.
- Auto-populate Current Medications from Most Recent Encounter: Carries over the latest medication list.
- Auto-populate Current Allergies from Most Recent Encounter: Carries over the latest allergy list.
Laboratory Tab
Set defaults for lab orders created by the user:
- Default Laboratory Name: Automatically select a lab for all new orders.
- Default Billing Method: Choose whether labs bill the provider, insurance, or patient.
- Default Order Type: Set lab orders as either in-office or for Patient Service Center (PSC) pickup.
Meaningful Use Tab
Set preferences for Meaningful Use reporting:
- Reporting Period & Objectives: Select your Meaningful Use Stage, Attestation Phase, and objectives from the list.

Direct Service Tab
Configure Direct Services for secure communication.
- Note: Setup must begin through the Security Administrator account (usually the office admin).
