Physician Extender is a designation given to a second individual who needs to be listed on an Encounter, often because a second signature (in addition to the Provider) is needed. Physician Extenders can be any Provider or Staff role (excluding Security Administrators).
To configure Physician Extenders (such as Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants) in EHR 24/7, follow the steps below.
Before We Begin
- You must have Admin (Parent) access to enable Physician Extender settings.
Turn On Physician Extender Signatures in EHR
- Log in to EHR using the Admin (Parent) username.
- Click Manage Office.
- Select System Preferences.
- Set Yes for “Have Physician Extender in Encounters and Progress Notes?”
- (Optional) Set Yes for “Only the selected PE on the Progress Note can sign off?”.
- Click Update.
Default a Physician Extender (Optional)
Each individual username accessing EHR 24/7 can choose to default a Physician Extender to auto-populate on notes they create:
- Log in to EHR.
- Click on the Manage Office tab.
- Select User Preferences.
- Under Default Resident/Phys. Extender:
- Select the Physician Extender in both drop-down menus.
- Click Update.
Show Physician Extender Signature on Printed Notes
- Log in to EHR.
- Click on the Manage Office tab.
- Select User Preferences.
- Click Patient Chart.
- Check the box for “Default Print Physician Extender Signature (if exists):”.
- Click Update.
Select a Physician Extender on a Progress Note (If Not Defaulted)
- Log in to EHR.
- Click on Patient Charts.
